Prior to installation, a fleet of 20 tractor trailers operated by a team of 40 drivers were utilized to transport the trays 1,250-miles from Florida to New York. Pitches were cut in half and loaded by crane onto trucks for the trek to New York, and each tray was individually wrapped to protect the soil and grass from drying out during transit, hence creating a microclimate. Temperature changes were encountered during the trip as drivers made their way through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. Drivers traveled through the night to prevent the grass from going dormant due to the climate changes and a moisture probe was used to verify that the trays maintained the optimal growing environment during transit.
